Maia Falwasser shared a video of the poignant ceremony, in which she wed Navar Herbert - her “best friend” and father to her son. Guests performed an emotional haka as friends and family shed tears in a romantic garden on Australia's Gold Coast. Mr Herbert died on Tuesday night after a lengthy battle with a cancerous sarcoma tumour. The Gold Coast rugby union player was reportedly diagnosed with the tumour several months ago and his condition rapidly deteriorated.

His wife Maia, with whom he has an 11-month-old son, posted video footage of their unforgettable day on a GoFundMe page. She set up the crowdfunder to raise money to fly Mr Herbert’s body back to his hometown of Kotahitanga Marae, New Zealand. In a moving message on the page she wrote: "Today my heart is heavy and sad, I lost my best friend, husband and the father to our son. “I feel absolutely showered in LOVE by friends and family, this is a hard time, however I do find my strength and refuge in everybody’s support. “He has impacted so many people near and far, and he will always be in our memories and have a special place in our hearts.” The page has so far raised more than £49,600 ($90,000 AUS). In the footage, the 22-year-old’s groomsmen are seen helping him dress for the big day before wheeling him outside to await his bride. As she appears at his side, he holds her hand and says: "Hello my wife, hello my baby. I love you". The couple and guests fight back tears as they exchange rings, and swear to "be partners for life".

Mr Herbert’s rugby club, the Nerang Bulls, hosted a celebration of his life on Friday, which was attended by an estimated 500 people. In a Facebook post, the club wrote: "Thank you everyone, from the bottom of our hearts. Today was an amazing way to send off Navar. "There had to be over 500 people there today to say goodbye. "The love and respect everyone showed was incredible. To the Herbert Family, we hope today was all that you hoped for and more. The support was unbelievable. Much love."
