Maungdaw dwellers worry about spread of COVID-19 virus

SITTWE- After a man who has a travel history returning from Bangladesh had tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of vases to six in Maungdaw District, the locals worried about the spread of virus.

The last COVID-19-infected patient is a 63-year-old Bengali man from Buthidaung Township, Rakhine State, who has a travel history to Bangladesh.

At present, the patient is sent to Buthidaung People’s Hospital and those who contacted the patient will be sent to the Quarantine Center in Hla Pho Khaung Camp, in Maungdaw Township, according to the Buthidaung Township Administrative Office.

There are six COVID-19 cases in Maungdaw District and over 90 people who had close contact with the six patients are kept at the Quarantine Center in Hlaphokhaung camp.

The District Level COVID-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee are now announcing the instructions being laid down by the Ministry of Health and Sports. If a person who violated the rules and regulations, he or she must be faced prison punishment and fine.

Moreover, the public must inform the relevant administrative departments and health department about those returnees from abroad.

The locals and MPs from Maungdaw said that they can’t prevent against those illegal returnees from Bangladesh via Maungdaw border.

So, Four men led by Sein Hla Phyu staged a protest over taking action against those illegal returnees and authorities who were assigned at the border gate for their negligence.

Myanmar has so far seen 262 COVID-19 cases, six deaths and 167 recoveries.
