It’s Monday and your productivity levels are feeling low after the weekend. How to rectify it? By spending your time playing a secret adventure game hidden in Google.

We all know Google is more than just a search engine but you might not know the hidden Easter Eggs that are dispersed throughout the site, like the Tilt feature that turns your browser lopsided and upside down.

This weekend, PC gaming website Rock Paper Shotgun reported a new secret game focusing on adventures. Here’s what you need to know...

What is the Google adventure game?

Hidden away in Google’s development console is a secret game.

You start by playing as the big blue G in the Google logo, tasked with trying to find your friends, the other letters in the logo like the red O and green L.

The game starts with you feeling lightheaded and realising that your friends are missing. A narrative is woven through the Google Campus-based adventure, and you have to choose which is the best command to keep the game going such as “north” or “south” or different actions like “grab” to interact with the world.

How to find the Google adventure game

First up, make sure you have the right browser. If you’re using Google Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge then you can access the game, whereas it looks like Safari doesn’t support it at the moment.

Then you’re ready to play the game.

  1. Type in “text adventure” into the Google search bar.
  2. Using your keyboard, do the shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + I on Windows, or Cmd + Option + I on Mac, and a text menu opens up.
  3. From the menu, select the “Console” tab at the top.
  4. A note pops up asking if you would like to play the game. If you type in “yes” you will be taken on the adventure.
